If two matrices A = \(\begin{bmatrix}x+y&0\\2x&7\end{bmatrix}\) and B =\( \begin{bmatrix}5&0\\4&7\end{bmatrix}\) are equal the the values of x and y are?
- 2,3
- 4,1
- 3,2
- 5,0
1 Answer
Given,
\(\begin{pmatrix}x+y&0\\2x&7\end{pmatrix}=\begin{pmatrix}5&0\\4&7\end{pmatrix}\)
So, x+y=5 ⇒ y=3
And, 2x=4 ⇒ x=2
Hence (x,y) = (2,3)
