When the ray of light coming from their source fall on an opaque body,results dark shadow. In the same way an eclipse occurs as result of motion of the sun, the earth and the moon. They lies on straight line, either the shadow of the moon falls on the earth as vice-versa. This situation is called eclipse.
There are two types of eclipse. They are
- Lunar eclipse
- Solar eclipse
Lunar eclipse when the sun, the earth and the moon lies on the straight line the earth blocks the sunlight. As a result, the shadow of the moon falls on the earth falls on the moon, which is called lunar eclipse.
Solar eclipse when the sun, the moon and the earth lie on the same straight line, the moon blocks the sun light. As a result, the shadow of the moon falls on the earth, which is called solar eclipse.
Causes of solar eclipse
- Light travels only a straight line.
- when the shadow of the moon falls on the surface of the earth.
- when the sun, the earth and the moon lies on a straight line.
- when the earth revolves around the sun and the moon revolves around the earth on their own orbits respectively.
