Three geographical regions of South America are :

1. | Western Andes Region(Andes Range) | The longest Andes mountain range stretches from Venezuela in the north to Tierra Del Fuego in the south, in the west of South America. It is about 7000 km long unbroken chain of mountains. The highest mountain peak, Mt Aconcagua (6, 960 m) and the lake at the highest altitude of this continent, lake Titicaca is located here. It is very mote and backward due to the presence of the desert, earthquake, and volcano prone area and difficult topography. |
2. | Central plain region | The northern region of central plain has the largest river of the world, Amazon and tropical rain forest called Selvas. There are tropical grassland like Granchaco and Campos an temperate grassland called Pampas to south selvas. These places have dry climate as they lie far away from the sea. |
3. | Eastern Highland Region | The eastern highland lies on the coast of the Atlantic Ocean. The North east is affected by hurricane. The Brazilian highland lies in the central eastern region and the plain land of Argentina in the south. The climate of both of these is suitable for human settlement. |
