Work is defined the product of force acted on a body and the distance moved by body. Mathmatically,
Work (W)= Force x distance (d)
There are two types of work. They are
- Work against friction
- Work against gravity
Work against friction
Friction is a force which acts in the opposite direction of the motion of moving body. In case of pushing a cart, the work is done against the frictional forces between the wheel of the cart and ground. Similarly, when we push a wheel- cart, we do work against friction.
Work against gravity
When we lift a body from ground level to certain height, the force is applied against gravity. This type of work done is called work against gravity.
