To place nursing education into perspective, it is helpful to reflect on the health care environment and the role of the nurse in that environment. Nursing education also has undergone changes to keep pace and to prepare leaders who are highly educated and technically sharp decision-makers and clinicians. Factors driving the transformations include new medical and technological advances, new health care delivery systems, and expanded roles for nurses.

Nurses are the largest single group of health care professionals but they do not practice in isolation. Rather they are an integral part of health care teams, institutions, and systems.

As health care continues to move outside the hospital, the demand for nurses can function across systems. The changing health care environment has not only changed the role of the nurse, it has also affected the supply - demand ratio. Hospitalized patients have multiple health problems, are more acutely ill, and are discharged sooner. This has increased the demand for nurses in acute care institutions at the same time that more nurses are needed in home and community around the world. Given trends that emphasize health promotion and disease prevention, the need for acute and chronic care is rising very fast.

After few years in health care services and the changing trend, the Alka Hospital Pvt. Ltd. strongly felt the lacking of nursing institutions in Nepal that produce the quality human resources.

After a comprehensive study, the management team decided to establish the institution to be a “Center of Excellence” in the field of nursing education and is to address the national and ultimately the rural problem of the need of the skilled human resources, particularly in the areas of health, throughout human resource development program with the following specific objectives:

•          To equip students with necessary skills and strong theoretical background necessary for an efficient nurse;
•          To meet the demand of nursing manpower in the country as well as outside the country;
•          To support the country’s human resource plan, especially in health;
•          To make nursing education accessible;

From 2065 Alka Hospital established a nursing college named Alka Institute of Medical Sciences and  began the nursing education in 2065 with CTEVT affiliated Proficiency Certificate Level (PCL).

Diploma programe:

• Certificate in Medical Laboratory Technology (CMLT) - 30 seats

• PCL in General Medicine-Health Assistant (HA) - 40 seats

• PCL Nursing (Staff Nurse) - 40 seats

Bachelor Programe:

• Post Basic Bachelor in Nursing (PBBN) - 40 seats
